Whole Damn Thing
Label: Blaster Records
Chuck Wicks' sophomore effort, Turning Point, comes after an eight-year gap -- a time in which country music's sound changed immensely. Wicks, who co-hosts NASH-FM's popular syndicated America's Morning Show, has rolled with the changes. "The Whole Damn Thing" is a warm ballad that celebrates finding delight in all the different parts of a woman that combine to make her whole. "Us Again" is a slow-burning, optimistic look back at a relationship that builds into a crashing chorus. Both are radio friendly, as is opener "She's Gone," which bears a passing resemblance to the earthy, big drum sound found on The Wallflowers' "One Headlight." With Turning Point, Wicks hasn't reinvented the wheel, but sometimes wheels work best when they are simply rolling forward at a steady pace.
