If You Leave
Anyone with vivid memories of Beth Orton crooning over the tail of the Chemical Brothers' Dig Your Own Hole as shards of backwards synth washed over her like crashing waves will feel a serious tinge of nostalgia at "Winter," the opening track on Daughter's full-length debut. Elena Tonra's resemblance to Orton is uncanny, though her band is more post-modern, more reminiscent of electronic upstart Tycho than anything else. Tonra likes far-miked reverb a lot more than The xx, but they're in there, too, particularly on the spacious "Tomorrow." A familiar folk sound through a 2013 lens.
