Bloody Creature Poster Girl
Label: Atlantic Records
Graduating to Atlantic after four increasingly popular indie albums, this L.A. band is as much industrial metal as metalcore, though split-personality screed "Big Bad Wolf" registers as the latter. Maria Brink battles feminine expectations, samples spider documentaries, schmaltz-duets with Shinedown's singer, crosses Marilyn Manson with Marilyn Monroe (mimicked by name in "Bloody Creature Poster Girl"), begs Christian rock questions (in "Bones" and "Natural Born Sinner," which quotes John 8:7) and closes with a mini-opera about teens tortured by pimps and dope. Now and then, guitars get loud.
