Kid Cudi calls Indicud a "happy" album in comparison to his earlier "lonely stoner" Man on the Moon series. But his emotional state could be described as self-confident; he's too angrily defensive to express unfettered joy. Still, all that matters is that his songwriting and his gauzy, darkwave-tinged beats prove incredibly effective, particularly during the album's first half and on "Unf*ckwittable," "Just What I Am," "King Wizard" and "New York City Rage Fest." Even a Michael Bolton cameo on "Afterwards" works well, and "Red Eye" with the Haim sisters is a pop-rock delight.
