Label: Jonas Brothers Catalogue/Republic
We get that if your day job is to be crush fodder for gazillions of seven- to eleven-year-olds that you might want to moonlight as something more adult. But the 17-year-old Nick Jonas sounds practically middle-aged on his very adult-alt-leaning new solo project. Sometimes this results in an epically bland fail and Jonas sounds like a watered-down John Mayer. But on funkier tracks like "State of Emergency" the young master Jonas pulls off a kind of Prince-as-read-through-Jamiroquai-meets-JT vibe, and he really kills it on "Conspiracy Theory," a rocker with Michael Jackson vocals.
