The Way I Feel
A lot of "punk sell-out" nonsense was bandied about when ...And Out Come the Wolves blew up. This view conveniently overlooks two facts: (1) Old-school punk demanded mainstream attention and (2) Rancid know how to write tunes that sound great on the radio, plain and simple. The album cleverly pays tribute to just about every punk subgenre out there: ska-punk ("Time Bomb"), ska-punk-meets-cowpunk ("The 11th Hour"), pop-punk ("Olympia WA"), street punk ("Avenues & Alleyways") and so on. On top of all that, the opener, "Maxwell Murder," boasts a bass solo. That's so unpunk it's actually punk!
