The Early Years
Label: everest records
In the late '50s, several years before cofounding The Walker Brothers and relocating to England, Scott Walker experienced his first brush with fame. Still known as Scott Engel at that point, he recorded a smattering of sides in the then-popular teen idol style (smooth vocals over pop arrangements and shuffling backbeats). He even appeared on Eddie Fisher's television show a handful of times. Though these tunes share very little in common with Walker's later work, his strong, robust voice is already taking form -- which is rather astonishing when you consider he was still a teenager.
