Wolfgang Gartner knows which way the wind is blowing. Né deep house DJ Joey Youngman, he invented the alias to make buzzing, maximalist electro-house better suited for stadium raves; now, on his debut album, he enlists Eve, Jim Jones & Cam'ron, Omarion and, yes, will.i.am for the requisite crossover bid. Fortunately, his productions hit harder than ever, closer to Boys Noize than David Guetta -- thick, dirty and above all, visceral. "Menage A Trois" and "818" are brutal, heads-down techno of a genuinely classic bent, proof that Gartner's stalk is stolid, even when he leans with the breeze.
